Measures approx 2 x 11mm in diameter and weighs approx 1.2 grams. Sterling silver. The five-pointed star, or pentagram is one of the most potent, powerful, and persistent symbols in human history. It has been important to almost every ancient culture, from the Mayans of Latin America, to India, China, Greece, and Egypt. According to Pythagoras, five was the number of man, because of the fivefold division of the body, and the ancient Greek division of the soul, the five points of the pentagram each represent one of the five elements that make up man: fire, water, air, earth, and psyche. Ritual magicians, like the Greeks, used the Pentagram as a microcosm of the human body. In most Wiccan and Neopagan traditions, its symbolic meaning is derived from Ceremonial magick and the four elements ruled by the spirit, wind, water, earth and fire. In many of these traditions, it can also symbolize the unity of mankind with the earth or with the realm of the spirit and the human body. |
